Woking YMCA, in association with Aimhigher Surrey, present: The Professional Footballer Taster Course.
Aimhigher is a national project which encourages young people with ability to think about higher education opportunities and shows them that, by completing a higher education course, their job prospects are considerably improved.
Aimhigher Surrey works closely with schools and colleges to provide a programme of activity including visits to universities, taster days, 1-1 mentoring and summer schools.
Aimhigher is funded by the Higher Education Funding Council which asks that we collect information on student background for research purposes.
The Course.
The ‘Professional Footballer’ taster course will include:
1. A visit to Kingston University's fitness laboratory (used by professional footballers) to ascertain just how fit the young people are (including maximal sprint capacity, leg power output, lung volume, and aerobic fitness) and to talk about football related careers that the young people won't have thought of.
2. A talk from Aimhigher about education.
3. A day with Surrey FA on a goal keeper’s course.
To be able to attend part 3 of the course, each young person must have attended parts 1 and 2.
To be able to take part in this course each young person must fit the following criteria which are set, for Aimhigher Surrey, by the Government, to ensure that the project will impact young people who, statistically, need it the most:
a) Their primary carers and elder siblings must not have attended higher education.
b) They must have the ability to learn at a higher level. This does NOT mean that they have to have lots of GCSEs and A-levels. It simply means they must have the POTENTIAL to do well when they are focused and motivated.
Woking YCMA will be taking a small group of 10 to 15 young people from the Ypod centre on three activities intended to help young people who are interested in ANY kind of sports related career to understand more about the various career paths and courses available to them.Aimhigher is a national project which encourages young people with ability to think about higher education opportunities and shows them that, by completing a higher education course, their job prospects are considerably improved.
